Shopping for your wedding dress is probably the most exciting part of planning your wedding! Ever since you were a little girl, you’ve imagined what it would be like stepping into a beautiful gown, and now that time is here! You’re excited, you’re nervous and you’re probably going to cry! Here are my 7 tips for getting the most out of the time spent, while making memories you will always treasure!

1. Do Your Homework. Before you make an appointment, your first step should be to peruse bridal magazines and/or the Internet to determine the type of dress you are looking for. The style of dress should suit the formality of your wedding (i.e., semi-formal or informal), your body type and your taste! Bring pictures of the type of dress you like to your appointment so the consultant can help you find what you’re looking for.

2. Determine how much you want to spend. Be honest and realistic with yourself. Tell the consultant at the bridal boutique what your budget is so she doesn’t show you anything outside of your price range. Nothing is more disappointing that seeing something you’ve fallen in love with, only to realize that it’s blowing your budget!

Also when determining your budget, keep in mind that alterations will probably be needed and will add to the total cost of your dress.

5. Order early! If you are planning to purchase your gown at a bridal boutique, don’t wait until the last minute to place your order. To avoid rush fees, your dress should be ordered 6 months before your wedding day to allow time for alterations.

6. Only bring a few people with you to your appointment. Shopping for your wedding dress is a special time that should be reserved for special people, such as your mother and your maid of honor. Don’t turn this unique day into a three-ring circus! J

2. Timing

People don’t always have to look or be smiling at the lens of the camera when your taking pictures. Sometimes its funny catching people pulling faces and acting normal when at weddings instead of an album full of staged pictures.

3. Glass

Always be on the look out for reflections from glass at weddings. We all know about crystal vases for flower displays, large windows in reception halls and wine glasses, which can all make a mess of photographs. On a sunny wedding day always make sure to check for light being reflected from glass especially at the all important toasts. If you are having problems with light reflection then try changing your angle, either by looking sideways or downwards at the reflecting object.

4. Preparation

Your at a wedding which will be one of the most important days of a couples life. Don’t run out of battery life or space on your memory card. Even turning up late or at the wrong reception is a no-no.
Always try and think ahead and bring spares for anything that can go wrong especially batteries. Make a list and be prepared.
